Haggis, anyone?
Every year, the Rogue Invitational features new implements and unique movements that are introduced not only to the athletes competing but also to the entire CrossFit world for the first time.
Here’s a quick look at some of this year’s more interesting events and a few initial takeaways.

Event 3: Braveheart
For time, 8-6-4-2 reps of:
- Wall walk complex
- Back squat, 375/260-pounds

We can’t wait to see what the “wall walk complex” entails — and bonus points for referencing a cinematic masterpiece along the way.
- This event will likely include wall-facing handstand pushups, but how many are we talking about? What else could they mix into the complex to give the athletes a run for their money?
Rogue Invitational programming is unique in many ways, but one specifically is its affinity for back squats.
- While it’s uncommon to see this powerlifting staple within a timed event at other competitions, this will be the third year in a row that they have been included at the Invitational.
Event 4: Hunting Haggis
For time:
- 1000-meter row
- 30 thrusters, 135/95-pounds
- 30/20 log muscle-ups
- 30 thrusters 135/95-pounds
- 1000-meter row

This event could also be called the “Pyramid Jackie Gut Punch.”
- Rogue has taken the benchmark workout “Jackie” (1000 meter row, 50 thrusters 45/35 pounds, 30 pull-ups) and beefed (or muttoned) it up to a haggis-level intensity.
It includes a Rogue Invitational staple, the log muscle-up, at the top of the pyramid. Competitors will then make their way back through the not-so-light thrusters and finish with the devastating 1000-meter row.
Like the national dish of Scotland, athletes will put their heart, lungs, and liver into this spicy event.
Event 7: Gondola

The peg board has provided fans with plenty of exciting moments at the CrossFit Games.
This year, we get to see Scotland from a different perspective. The horizontal traverse is sure to provide athletes with a formidable challenge, and ending with the peg board will make for some thrilling races.
It may turn out to be a high-risk, high-reward event and will certainly reward accuracy in the form of hand-eye coordination. But missing a peg means an extra swing and extra grip fatigue — or, even worse, a fall and restart.
- The Ski Erg and GHDs are there to spike the heart rate, so staying calm and collected will be key.
Worth noting: Saturday’s events will tax athletes’ grip (rope climbs, Cyr Bell devil press, log muscle ups, and rowing) going into “Gondola,” making it extra challenging.
What’s Missing?
The only two events we don’t know yet are Events 6 and 9, which are the last events on days two and three, respectively.
What could these mystery events be?
In the last three years, we have seen a max lift:
- In 2021, it was Event 2: Bella Complex (clean, shoulder-to-overhead, front squat, shoulder-to-overhead).
- The event winners that year were Gui Malheiros (367 pounds) and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr (260 pounds).
- In 2022, Event 7: Texas Oak featured a Slater log clean and jerk.
- The event winners were Chandler Smith (300 pounds) and Dani Speegle (215 pounds).
- Last year, in 2023, Event 6: 1 Rep Max Deadlift closed out the second day of competition.
- The winners were Chandler Smith (610 pounds) and Alex Gazan (425 pounds).
We have also seen an elimination-style event each of the last three years: The Duel I, II, and III.
- It always makes for an entertaining event with major leaderboard implications due to the slim margin for error.
Athletes competed in a tournament bracket that dwindled to the final two, setting up a head-to-head matchup for the finale.
The eventual champion each of the last three years has not placed lower than third in The Duel event.
