Ingredients Needed

Ingredients measured out to make Peanut Butter Cup Protein Fluff: Skinny Dipped peanut butter cup, ice, almond milk, frozen banana, chocolate whey protein powder and peanut butter.
  • chocolate protein powder – the base of this recipe! I highly recommend using whey protein powder for this recipe as plant-based protein powders won’t result in the same airy, fluffiness. I used Clean Simple Eats Brownie Batter protein powder for testing this recipe and it works great!
  • frozen banana – this is optional, but adding frozen banana gives the fluff a creamy texture and adds some natural sweetness. Plus, it helps with that thick, fluffy consistency we all love.
  • almond milk – just a little bit of almond milk is all you need to get things blending smoothly. I like using unsweetened almond milk, but any non-dairy or regular milk will work.
  • ice – the key to making this fluffy and thick! You’ll need ice to give it that light, airy texture.
  • peanut butter – you can’t go wrong with the combo of chocolate + peanut butter! Not only does it add a delicious nutty flavor, but it adds some additional protein.
  • peanut butter cup – I like adding a chopped Skinny Dipped peanut butter cup on top for a fun and delicious finishing touch, but you can definitely skip this. I like the Skinny Dipped brand because it has no palm oil and is low in sugar. Another great option is to make my 5-ingredient peanut butter cups!

Recipe Substitutions

  • Banana: If you’re not a fan of bananas or want to switch things up, you can leave it out completely or swap it for frozen berries for a fruity twist!
  • Peanut Butter: If you prefer almond butter, cashew butter, or even a nut-free option like sunflower seed butter, feel free to swap out the peanut butter. They all work great and bring a different flavor to the fluff.

How to Make Protein Fluff

Ingredients for a peanut butter cup protein fluff in a food processor before being blended.

Step 1: Add the protein powder, banana, ice, almond milk and peanut butter to your food processor.

Step 2: Process for 3-5 minutes until the mixture is combined, smooth and fluffy.

Brittany’s Tip!

The secret to getting that light, airy texture is to blend the mixture for a full 3-5 minutes. It might seem like a long time, but this extra blending helps the protein fluff achieve the perfect fluffy consistency, similar to a whipped dessert.

Protein Fluff Flavor Variations

I love the peanut butter chocolate combo, but there are so many fun different variations to try! Here are some ideas:

  • Strawberry: Swap the banana with frozen strawberries and use vanilla or strawberry protein powder instead. The Clean Simple Eats Strawberry Cheesecake protein powder would be SO delicious! Then top it with fresh chopped strawberries or freeze-dried strawberries. Yum!
  • Vanilla: Use a vanilla protein powder instead of chocolate and either skip the peanut butter or use almond butter or cashew butter instead since peanut butter has such a strong, distinct flavor.
  • Tropical: For a tropical variation swap the frozen banana with frozen pineapple or mango, the almond milk with coconut milk and use Clean Simple Eats vanilla or coconut cream protein powder. I’d also skip the peanut butter for this variation and top the fluff with toasted coconut flakes and fresh banana slices and/or pineapple.
  • Cookies and cream: I love this flavor as a milkshake, so I’m sure it would be delicious as a protein fluff! You could use vanilla protein powder or the CSE cookies and cream protein powder, which would be so delicious. I also recommend topping your fluff with Oreos for a fun addition.

Storing Protein Fluff

This recipe is really best enjoyed right away as it will likely lose that fluffiness when stored. But, if you do have leftovers you can store in the refrigerator for one day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use frozen banana?

Not at all! The banana is optional, but it helps with the creaminess and sweetness. You can leave it out if you prefer or substitute it with frozen berries, Greek yogurt, or even a small amount of avocado for creaminess.

What if my fluff isn’t thick enough?

If your fluff turns out too thin, try adding more ice or freezing the banana longer before blending. You can also reduce the amount of almond milk to make it thicker. Blending for a few extra minutes can also help achieve that light, airy texture.

What’s the best way to serve protein fluff?

Protein fluff is versatile! You can serve it as a light snack, in a bowl with your favorite toppings (like nuts, fruit, or granola), or even as a base for a smoothie bowl. It’s great on its own or paired with additional textures and flavors.
