Air Fryer Date Glazed Salmon

This air fryer date glazed salmon is coated in spices and date syrup and cooks up in under 10 minutes. Serve it with roasted veggies for a quick and easy weeknight dinner!

My kiddos love salmon so we’re always looking for new ways to make it for them. One night Isaac randomly decided to pull my date syrup out of the pantry and make them date glazed salmon in the air fryer and oh my gosh, they absolutely loved it.

They call it “sweet salmon” and we’ve basically been making it at least once a week, sometimes twice. That’s how much they like it.

Not only is this salmon delicious, but it’s so easy to whip up. All you need is salmon, date syrup and a few seasonings… that’s it! Plus, it cooks up in under 10 minutes in the air fryer making it the perfect recipe for busy weeknight dinners.

Pair it with your favorite grain and a side of veggies like these sautéed green beans or roasted broccoli and you’ve got a delicious and healthy meal that everyone will love!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Delicious – The combination of the sweetness from the date syrup and the savory flavors from the seasonings makes this recipe absolutely irresistible (and kid-friendly).
  • Quick and easy – Perfect for those busy weeknights when you need a delicious meal on the table fast. You just need a few ingredients and less than 10 minutes of cook time!
  • Perfectly cooked – The air fryer makes salmon tender, juicy and even a bit crispy… every single time. No more dry or unevenly cooked fish.
  • Versatile – Serve this salmon for dinner with a grain of choice and a side salad or roasted veggies like this kale crunch salad or roasted sweet potatoes. It would also be a great addition to grain bowls like this easy salmon meal prep bowl.

Ingredients Needed

Ingredients measured out to make Air Fryer Date Glazed Salmon: salmon, garlic powder, pepper, onion powder, salt and date syrup.
  • salmon filets – we typically get the BBQ cut fresh Atlantic salmon filets from Trader Joe’s. Frozen salmon filets can work too. Just make sure they’re fully thawed before cooking.
  • date syrup – this natural sweetener adds a rich, sweet flavor to the salmon. It’s a great alternative to sugar and brings a unique, Mediterranean vibe to the salmon. If you can’t find date syrup at your local grocery store, grab it on Amazon.
  • garlic and onion powder – these two seasonings help enhance the flavor of this salmon and give it that perfect savory element to complement the sweetness of the date syrup.

Recipe Substitutions

  • Sweetener – If you don’t have access to date syrup, I can try using honey as a substitute, but you might be better off trying my maple glazed salmon or honey lemon garlic salmon instead.
  • Seasonings – You can totally use fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder if you prefer and if you like a bit of heat, try adding some chili powder or cayenne pepper for an extra kick.

How to Store and Meal Prep

This salmon works great as a meal prep recipe! Just prepare and cook the salmon as directed below, then let it cool slightly before storing it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. You’ll have perfectly cooked and delicious salmon to eat any night (or day!) of the week.

To reheat, add salmon to a skillet over medium heat until warm throughout or pop back in the air fryer for a few minutes. Just be careful not to overcook so that it doesn’t dry out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe without an air fryer?

Yes, you can bake the salmon in the oven at 400°F for about 12-15 minutes or until it flakes easily with a fork. The cooking time might vary slightly depending on the thickness of your filets.

Can I cook the salmon with the skin on?

Yes! The skin contains the same nutrients found in salmon. Just make sure you’re eating high-quality fish from a reliable source if you choose to eat the skin. Of course, it’s a personal preference and you can just slide the flesh off before eating as well!

Do I have to flip the salmon in the air fryer?

No, there is no need to flip salmon when cooking it in the air fryer. Simply place salmon filets skin side down in air fryer and cook on 390°F for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through.
